Black Horse Road and Forestry Trailers Inc., a sister company of Blacks Creek Innovations Inc., collectively boasts over half a century of expertise in the forestry sector.
Sheldon Gilmer, who owns and leads both companies, comes from an agricultural background and has extensive experience in forestry. He understands the critical need for machines that are not only durable and well-constructed but also minimize downtime and remain affordable. He built his first processor after the ice storm in 1998.
Over the years, the business expanded and in 2022, Blacks Creek relocated to a new manufacturing facility in Prescott, Ontario. Blacks Creek offered various complementary lines of forestry equipment, and over the years, customers (their best engineers) frequently requested features that were not available on these products. The move to a larger manufacturing space provided the perfect opportunity to broaden the business scope. Black Horse Road and Forestry Trailers Inc. was established!
Richinda Bates, Operations & Sales for Black Horse, lives with her husband and two daughters on their 6th generation farm where they bred and raised Percheron horses. Her father-in-law, Jack, trained his horses to pull cultivators, haul logs from the bush, and gather firewood using a horse drawn sleigh. In the spring of 2008, the last Percheron to be born and raised on the Bates Farm arrived; they named him Gulliver. Jack passed away that fall.
Gulliver is trained to ride and perform all the powerful tasks typical of a Percheron! The immense strength of the gentle giant, coupled with his capability to work in the timber industry, inspired the name of their company, Black Horse.
